SiTime Introduces Programmable Spread Spectrum Oscillator (SSXO) - SiT9005

SiTime Corporation, a subsidiary of MegaChips, has officially introduced the SiT9005—a groundbreaking programmable spread spectrum oscillator (SSXO) designed to help electronic products meet strict electromagnetic interference (EMI) standards. This innovative component not only ensures compliance but also speeds up time-to-market by eliminating last-minute radiation issues that often lead to costly delays and unexpected troubleshooting. The SiT9005 offers a powerful solution by spreading the clock signal and fine-tuning the rise and fall times of the waveform, effectively reducing unwanted emissions. With the support of SiTime’s Time Machine II programmer, engineers can adjust these parameters in real-time through field programming, giving them greater flexibility and control during product development. This EMI-reducing oscillator is ideal for a wide range of applications, including IP cameras, industrial motors, multifunction printers, tablets, and flat panel displays—any device that must adhere to rigorous regulatory requirements. The SiT9005 delivers exceptional performance with an EMI reduction of up to 17dB at the carrier frequency and as much as 30dB at harmonic frequencies. With 28 different spread spectrum options, the SiT9005 provides designers with extensive customization capabilities. It supports center spread ranges from ±0.125% to ±2.0%, with a resolution of ±0.125%, and lower spread ranges from -0.25% to -4.0%, with a resolution of ±-0.25%. Additionally, it features 8 configurable FlexEdge rise/fall time settings, with conversion rates ranging from 0.25ns to 40ns. The SiT9005 also offers two types of spread spectrum waveforms: triangular or nonlinear "Hershey Kiss" shapes. It delivers sub-15ps optimal cycle-to-cycle jitter, making it ideal for high-speed chip timing applications. The oscillator operates across a broad frequency range, from 1MHz to 141MHz, and consumes as little as 0.2μA in standby mode, making it perfect for battery-powered systems. Available in three industry-standard sizes—2.0 x 1.6mm (the smallest SSXO in the market), 2.5 x 2.0mm, and 3.2 x 2.5mm—the SiT9005 is fully compatible with existing designs, allowing for easy integration. It operates over a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, ensuring reliability in demanding industrial environments. The device also boasts excellent ±20ppm frequency stability and provides LVCMOS output for seamless compatibility with a variety of systems.
