On September 12, the "Future TV Has Arrived – OLED Summit" took place in Beijing, bringing together over 200 Chinese TV manufacturers, channel distributors, and industry experts. The event aimed to discuss the current state of the high-end TV market and the future direction of OLED television. Attendees had the opportunity to witness the latest achievements in OLED technology, which represents the cutting-edge trends in the global TV industry. The afternoon session featured a formal announcement ceremony, marking a major milestone for OLED TVs and signaling their expected rise as a leading force in the future TV market.
The summit was co-organized by leading companies such as Changhong, Konka, Skyworth, LG Electronics, Philips, and Sony, with support from the China Electronic Video Industry Association and the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce. Key figures from Suning Yunshang and Gome Appliances also attended, showing strong industry interest. During the discussions, participants highlighted the potential of OLED TVs to reshape the display industry. Liu Weizhi, CEO of Skyworth Group, emphasized that while the TV market is saturated, OLED TVs are creating new value and could serve as a breakthrough point for the industry.
Lu Xiangde, President of LG Display, spoke about the competitiveness and future value of OLED technology, stating that it will change the rules of the display industry and dominate the future TV market. His remarks generated high expectations among attendees, especially regarding large-size OLED TVs in China.
Since LG Display began mass-producing OLED panels in 2013, its products have gained widespread recognition from TV manufacturers globally. By 2017, the number of customers had expanded to 13 companies across China, Europe, and Japan. At IFA 2017, major TV brands like LG, Skyworth, Konka, Philips, and Panasonic showcased their OLED TV models, highlighting the growing popularity of the technology.
LG Display has been continuously expanding its production capacity, aiming to produce over 100,000 units per month, reaching 1.8 million in 2017, and planning to increase to 3 million in 2018, eventually hitting 6 million by 2020. This growth reflects the rising demand for OLED TVs.
OLED technology offers a range of benefits, including vibrant colors, perfect black levels, infinite contrast, wide viewing angles, and reduced blue light, making it more comfortable for viewers. Its flexible design allows for unique applications such as wallpaper-style TVs and self-sound OLED screens, offering new possibilities for the future of television.
At the summit, Vincent Teoh, editor-in-chief of HDTV, praised OLED TVs for their superior image quality, particularly in contrast and color accuracy. Renowned photographer Tong Meng also shared his experience, emphasizing how OLED perfectly captures natural colors.
The event included exhibition areas where attendees could compare OLED technology with traditional displays and experience innovative products like OLED wallpapers and self-sound TVs. These interactive experiences helped reinforce the advantages of OLED technology.
With continuous advancements in panel technology and an expanding product lineup, OLED TVs are quickly becoming mainstream. LG Display has started setting up innovation centers in major Chinese cities, including Guangzhou Tower, to bring more consumers closer to OLED technology. As the trend toward OLED mainstreaming continues, it's clear that OLED will soon become the dominant force in the future of television.
