In order to accelerate the adoption of 4K content, last week the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television officially released its recommendations and designated Guangdong Province as a pilot zone for the national broadcasting and film industry. This initiative aims to promote the application of 4K ultra-high-definition television and foster the growth of related industries.
Guangdong's selection as a 4K testing ground is well-founded. The province already has a solid foundation in the development of ultra-high-definition television technology. Major companies such as Skyworth, Konka, TCL, China Star Optoelectronics, and Huawei have established a complete industrial chain covering chips, panels, and finished products. This makes it easier to implement and scale up 4K services across the region.
According to a report by Nanfang Daily, the Guangdong Broadcasting System is well-prepared for large-scale 4K Ultra HDTV development and has already seen initial success. As of June 30 this year, the number of 4K TV users in Guangdong reached nearly 5.642 million. The province can now provide 1,362 hours of 4K programming. Viewers can access these high-quality programs through cable TV, an IPTV 4K test channel, or a dedicated 4K on-demand section. Looking ahead, this collaborative model for 4K resources will be expanded nationwide. Soon, owning a 4K TV won't just be a luxury — it will become a necessity. The era of 4K is truly upon us.
