Atmel launches AT86RF233 2.4GHz IEEE 802.15.4 radio transceiver

Atmel announced that the latest AT86RF233 2.4GHz IEEE 802.15.4 radio transceiver can support distance measurement between two radio devices, that is, ranging.

This innovative technology uses phase differences between radio signals to measure and enables object tracking within wireless networks for industrial and consumer applications. Phase measurement is not a complicated technology compared to the universal distance measurement technology available on the market today, and has similar measurement accuracy and lower overall system cost.

Today, many applications for wireless networks are also accompanied by the inherent need to determine the location of individual nodes within the network in order to keep installation and maintenance costs low. The ability to determine the distance between any two nodes in a wireless sensor network is the motivation for implementing positioning and localization solutions. Although GPS is a very successful outdoor application, it cannot effectively support indoor applications.

Andreas Werner, Managing Director of Agilion GmbH, said: "In the past few years, we have been evaluating several different technologies based on radio-based distance measurement, including received signal strength indicator (RSSI), linear frequency modulation (Chirp) ) And ultra-wideband (UWB) methods. We have seen that all these technologies are only suitable for niche applications. They either sacrifice performance or are very complex, and ultimately make the cost-per-node very high. By combining wireless sensor networks and real-time location system (real-time melocaTIon, RTLS) capabilities, Atmel ’s new technology has established a unique value proposition, even for large-scale market applications. "

SCR founder Eyal Brayer said: "In our business, accurate animal tracking is very important. Due to the new phase difference technology, we chose Atmel AT86RF233 transceiver for our SCR system. At our large dairy farm The technology allows us to accurately track hundreds of cows within a single wireless network, enabling our customers to bring products to market faster. "

Oyvind Strom, Senior Director of Atmel Wireless Solutions, said: "In this era of the Internet of Things, we are seeing the growth of smart and connected devices in wireless networks. As they grow, many of our customers need to be able to effectively support Solutions for the installation and maintenance of its systems. This new phase difference technology can be used to determine the location of nodes within the network, helping to meet these stringent requirements. By using cost-effective standard radio transceivers, Atmel Help companies to significantly reduce the overall bill of materials (BOM) cost of such systems. "

Evaluation Tool Suite

In order to accelerate the project development of designers, Atmel now provides a software evaluation tool suite using REB233SMA-EK. To purchase the kit, please contact your local sales representative. Atmel launched the AT86RF233 transceiver in April 2012 and is now available for mass production.

The traditional glass neon tube investment is high, using glass tubes, high-voltage electricity and inert gas, making the production process complicated. The flexible neon lamp adopts a new structure and LED technology, and the special PVC shell is coated with LEDs, which increases the intensity and uniformity of light.
