Smart micro-investment is expected to continue in 2018 after breaking millions of units

The projection industry is experiencing a slowdown in overall growth, with the market becoming more rational and entering a development bottleneck. Amid this environment, laser projection and smart micro projectors have become the most anticipated trends. The evolution of these two key product categories will significantly shape the future of the projection market. As a result, both traditional manufacturers and companies from other industries have been actively entering the laser TV and smart micro projector space to gain a competitive edge and secure their market share. According to recent reports, over 80 brands are now competing in the smart micro projector market. In addition to traditional projection companies, many Internet, mobile phone, and electronics firms have also entered the scene. Brands such as Tmall, Meizu, Lenovo, LG, Xiaomi, Storm, PPTV, Skyworth, and Konka have launched smart mini projectors, aiming to capture a portion of this growing market. These new entrants bring fresh energy and innovation, increasing attention and competition within the industry. This year’s smart micro projector market has been very active, but how has it performed overall? Did it exceed the industry's expectation of surpassing one million units? Orvi Cloud recently provided some insight. In 2017, China's smart mini projection market saw rapid growth, with sales reaching 1.02 million units and generating 2.08 billion yuan in revenue—representing a year-on-year increase of 33% and 27%, respectively. Both sales volume and revenue showed strong growth, signaling that smart micro projectors are gradually moving toward mainstream adoption. Industry analysts attribute the success of smart micro projectors in 2017 to improved quality and lower prices. These factors have driven demand for large-screen home entertainment. High-brightness models (over 700 lumens) are now widely available, and economies of scale have helped reduce costs. Additionally, increased competition among brands has led to further price reductions. According to statistics, the main selling models in the 1080p segment were priced between 2,900 and 3,400 yuan, which was a 3% discount compared to 2016. Meanwhile, 720p models with 700 and 1000 lumens saw average prices drop by nearly 20% from late 2016 levels. This trend of better performance at more affordable prices has fueled market growth. During the 2017 Double 11 shopping festival, smart projectors reached peak sales. The total online sales during this period were around 100,000 units. According to Ove Cloud Network, the H1S model sold over 30,000 units, the Nut J6S sold over 20,000, and the A6 model exceeded 10,000. Combined, these three models surpassed 60,000 units, with other brands adding to the total, making it likely that the overall sales exceeded 100,000 units during the event. During the Double 11 and Double 12 promotions last year, smart micro projectors came in various resolutions (720p and 1080p) and brightness levels (500 lumens, 700+ lumens, and 1000+ lumens). Prices ranged from 1,349 to 6,699 yuan, with most models falling around the 3,000-yuan mark. These mid-range smart projectors proved to be the most popular in the market. Industry insiders believe that smart micro projectors are currently in their best development phase. Manufacturers are focusing on improving product details, such as glass lenses, auto-focus systems, intelligent hardware, software ecosystems, and content. Some top brands have even introduced voice-activated and AI-powered features, aligning smart micro projectors with broader tech trends. Ove Cloud Network is optimistic about 2018, forecasting a 65% increase in smart micro projector sales, with an expected 1.6 million units sold. This growth is expected to attract more investors and technology companies, further expanding the market. As a result, the smart micro projector category is set to become a major player in the display industry, drawing even more attention in the coming years.
