Major automakers like General Motors and Toyota continue to rely on MOST50 technology for their in-vehicle infotainment systems. This technology has proven to be reliable and efficient, supporting high-quality audio, video, and data transmission without the need for complex synchronization protocols. Microchip Technology Inc. recently celebrated a major milestone—delivering the 50 millionth 50 Mbps Intelligent Network Interface Controller (INIC) based on MOST® technology. The MOST50 platform includes an electrical physical layer (ePHY), making it ideal for unshielded twisted pair (UTP) copper applications across a wide range of vehicles, from compact cars to luxury SUVs. It's already been adopted by several major automotive platforms, including those from GM and Toyota. MOST technology is well-established, known for its reliability, clarity, and widespread use in in-vehicle broadband infotainment systems. It ensures predictable and efficient data transport, simplifying communication between devices and reducing processor load. Microchip’s INIC enables direct connections to the infotainment network and hardware interfaces, enhancing performance and enabling remote-controlled applications. Dan Termer, Vice President of Automotive Information Systems at Microchip, said: “Reaching 50 million units is a significant achievement for MOST50 technology. It reflects the global recognition and broad adoption of the MOST network solution. We remain committed to working with leading automotive manufacturers to further implement and evolve this technology.” The MOST Collaboration Standard helps OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers adopt a proven, reliable, and supported approach to system management and control. This ensures highly reliable infotainment systems with excellent quality of service (QoS). To date, MOST technology has been implemented in over 220 vehicle models worldwide and is used by all major automotive OEMs.
