The recent news has left many mobile phone users feeling frustrated. The main issue is that the three major telecom operators have stopped offering certain promotional packages, and these benefits are now only available to new customers. Old users, on the other hand, are excluded from these deals, which has caused a lot of dissatisfaction. Following the release of this news, the three operators were questioned about their policies.
Some time ago, China Unicom partnered with several internet companies to launch customized SIM cards such as Tencent King Card, Ant Bao Card, Weibo V Card, Baidu Shenka, JD.com Qiangka, and Bilibili 2233 Card. These cards provide affordable data plans for users with specific needs, but they are only available to new subscribers. Existing users are not eligible, which has led to growing frustration among long-time customers.
However, the clever netizens found a way around the problem. Many users submitted complaints to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and soon after, China Unicom contacted them, informing them that they could apply for new packages. The basis for these complaints was a document issued by MIIT on September 30, 2006, specifically the second requirement in [2006] No. 630, which states that under the same mobile number ownership, users should be able to independently choose any tariff plan without changing their number.

Despite this progress, some users still find the process too complicated and prefer not to go through the hassle of contacting the MIIT. Fortunately, there's good news: China Unicom is expected to fully open its new package options to existing users by the end of October. Although the official hasn't confirmed this yet, it's clear that the company is becoming more responsive to public feedback.
In recent years, the introduction of more user-friendly policies has made telecom operators more attentive to customer concerns, leading to significant improvements in user experience. From this perspective, many people are beginning to appreciate both the government’s role and the efforts of the operators. It's a positive sign that the system is evolving to better serve all users, regardless of whether they're new or long-term customers.
