In the army of autopilot technology development, another member, Intel, will be added.
On the morning of November 15, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich announced to the media and the public at the Los Angeles Auto Show that Intel will conduct research and development of autonomous driving technology within the next two years and invest 250 million U.S. dollars.
This investment will focus on technology, which can directly reduce the risks and costs, to develop the connectivity, environmental awareness, deep learning and security of autopilot technology. The goal of autopilot technology is to eliminate as much as possible the human driver’s possible mistakes and achieve a safer level than humans drive. Therefore, the driving data and the vehicle itself need to be quite safe and reliable.

According to data provided by Intel, in 2016, on average, each person would generate about 650 MB of data through his own computer, mobile phone, and wearable device. By 2020, this figure will increase to an average of 1.5 GB of data per person per day.
In contrast, self-driving car data is even more "rich." Since today's vehicle hardware is already quite complete, various cameras, sensors, and controllers can create and transmit large amounts of data, auto-driving cars produce about 4000 GB of data each day. This means that each self-driving car will generate a data volume of nearly 3,000 people.

It is precisely because Intel itself has a strong data processing capability, Krzanich also emphasized that the intersection of high-tech company's technology and transportation industry is more and more, so they have become a necessity in this field.
In the next step, Intel will work with German car manufacturer BMW and Smartye’s Mobileye to develop autopilot technology, hoping to help fully-autonomously drive cars on the road in 2021, and express that they will automate their own research and development. Driving technology creates an open platform for sharing with other car manufacturers and shared car companies.
