Artificial intelligence is rapidly gaining momentum, especially in fields like autonomous driving, computer vision, and intelligent robotics. These technologies are now transitioning into the industrialization phase, marking a significant step forward for the sector. On the 28th, Huaxia Core unveiled its domestically developed high-end processors and AI chips in Songjiang, Shanghai, further boosting China's AI industry development.
Mao Junfa, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and dean of the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiaotong University, emphasized that AI represents a crucial direction for future technological growth. He pointed out that AI applications rely heavily on advanced chip technology. Unlike the previous era of PCs, where China lacked core information technology, the AI era presents a unique opportunity for China to not only catch up but also lead globally with its self-developed chips.
From human vision to machine vision in autonomous vehicles, and from language translation on mobile devices to home robots using semantic understanding, AI is set to reshape global industries. The "New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan" issued by the State Council aims to bring China’s AI technology and application up to world-leading levels by 2020, positioning the AI industry as a major economic growth driver.
In line with this vision, the Shanghai Municipal Government released the "Implementation Opinions on the Development of a New Generation of Artificial Intelligence," which sets a target to establish five AI clusters and cultivate around ten leading AI innovation companies by 2020, with the industry's scale exceeding 100 billion yuan.
On the same day, the "Shanghai Lingang Artificial Intelligence Industrial Base" was officially launched, and several landmark AI enterprises, including Horizon, Tree Root, Baidu Innovation Center, and the Aerospace Eighth Academy, signed agreements to join the base, strengthening innovation collaboration.
Additionally, the Songjiang District Investment Promotion Service Center and the Dongfeng Town People’s Government signed cooperation agreements with Huaxia Core and Shanghai Zeroplus Investment Management Co., Ltd., aiming to deepen collaboration in AI-related fields and accelerate the growth of AI industries and clusters in Songjiang and beyond.
According to reports from Shanghai Songjiang, the G60 AI industrial base has already attracted over 80 AI-related companies. In October, it was recognized as a specialized industrial base by the Ministry of Science and Technology's Torch Center.
Gao Yong, deputy head of Songjiang District, stated that in the coming period, the district will focus on accelerating innovation-driven development, helping scientific and technological achievements reach the “highway†of the market. (Xinhua News Agency)
