Sony PS VR will be available for sale in October this year

Sony announced on Tuesday that the virtual reality device PS VR will be priced at $399 and will be available for sale in October 2016. Sony announced the news at the 2016 Game Developers Conference (GDC). If the user already owns the PS4, then the price is quite cheap. And even if the user does not have a PS4, the total cost of using this product is much lower than the competition. The Oculus Rift starts at $599, while the HTC Vive starts at $799. Both virtual reality devices require a powerful PC, and the price of such a PC is much higher than the PS4, which costs $299.

However, it should be noted that the lowest PS VR is not equipped with Sony's Move handle and no PS Camera. In fact, this camera is required when using PS VR. Sony people said that this is because some PS4 users have purchased the PS Camera camera. Sony is likely to sell bundled PS Camera cameras and Move handles in the future, but Sony declined to give more information.

Sony confirmed that the hardware configuration of the PS VR consumer version is consistent with previous rumors: the 5.7-inch OLED display has a frame rate of 120 fps and a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and each pixel can present a complete RGB gamut.

Sony also promised to launch 50 PS VR games from the PS VR release in October to the end of this year. In addition, Sony did not disclose much information. However, Sony said it will launch the virtual reality version of PS VR, "Star Wars: Frontline."

Unlike the Oculus Rift, the current PS VR is not much different from the version that Sony released on GDC two years ago. At the time, Sony's product was called the "Dream Project." In the past two years, some internal configurations of PS VR have been optimized, but the overall look has not changed: this is a mask-like device that users can use to play games with PS Move or DualShock 4 handles.

This device is equipped with 9 LED lights for 360 degree head tracking. Sony said the system's response latency is less than 18 milliseconds. The biggest problem at the moment is whether PS VR can bring the same good experience as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive when used with PS4. The PS VR experience may not be as good as the competition, but Sony also said that the total cost of using this product is much lower than that of competitors.
