Recently, I worked on repairing a Sony KDL-46W5500 LCD TV. The issue was that the TV would start up normally, but after about one minute, a full-screen vertical bar appeared. The position and number of the bars didn't change even after tapping the screen. When I accessed the menu, there were also vertical bars on the text. To narrow down the problem, I used the exclusion method by connecting a universal LCD motherboard to the logic board. The vertical bars still remained, which indicated that the issue wasn't with the motherboard. Since the image was normal for the first minute after startup, I suspected a component on the logic board with poor thermal stability.
Considering the cost and time involved in testing individual components, and the risk of return shipping if the replacement was incorrect, I decided to replace the logic board. I contacted an online seller, discussed the situation, and they agreed to allow returns if the part was wrong. This made the process much easier and more convenient for my repair work. Although there's always a chance that the screen might be damaged, returning the logic board would still cost me around tens of dollars in shipping. This is one of the reasons many technicians are hesitant to buy parts online. However, I believe that spending a few dollars for experience is worth it, especially when you're aiming to grow your skills and business.
On the third morning, the new logic board arrived. I carefully removed the old one and installed the new one. After connecting the signal, everything worked perfectly! It was a great success, and the profit from this repair was quite impressive. Here are some final pictures of the job:
