Recently, Allegro MicroSystems has introduced the new constant current LED driver series A6261, A6262 and A6264, which are designed to meet the internal and external lighting applications in the automotive market. Allegro's A6261, A6262, and A6264 four-channel LED driver devices are fully compliant with the highest automotive quality standards and robustness requirements. Each channel provides up to 100mA of LED current. When a user-selected current is applied to four output channels, each output channel averages the load and can be paralleled to provide higher current. The device operates with very low dropout voltages to reduce power consumption without the need for any ballast resistors.
This family of products features short-circuit ground protection to disable short-circuit channels and allow other channels to continue to operate. Open LEDs on any channel can also be detected. In addition, there is an overcurrent protection circuit that uses the chip junction temperature to return the LED current, protecting the IC and LEDs (if mounted near the associated device and on the same substrate). Available in eMSOP-10 (LY) and eTSSOP-16 (LP) packages.
The product can be used in key automotive applications, including (external) brake lights, turn signals, taillights and rear combination lights (RCL), as well as (internal) roof lights, navigation lights and rear view mirror footlights. Commercial grade 6261 (suffix E) for consumer lighting applications.
