Yesterday night, an old customer called me and said, "My LCD TV makes a loud bang sound inside when I turn it on." He didn’t say much else, just asked if I could come over to check it out. It's been over a year since I started in the repair business, but some of my old clients still don't seem to trust anyone else—like the saying goes, "Wushan is not a cloud," meaning they’re always looking for someone else. But I can’t avoid them.
The TV model was Hisense TLM4628. After opening the back cover, my first thought was that the capacitor might be the problem. I checked carefully and found that CE027 had cracked and turned black, making it impossible to read. There were also two resistors that were burned and completely charred. That looked really bad. (As shown below):
Since I didn’t know the original specs of the burned components, I tried to find them online. I was lucky enough to find the schematic. The parameters of the damaged parts are as follows:
I replaced all the damaged parts and tested the power supply voltage regulator IC (NE003). The resistance between pin 1 and 2 was around 20Ω, which seemed okay. I checked other components and then plugged in the power. The screen showed the "Hisense" logo, but after a few seconds, it shut down again. There must be another issue.
I checked the low-voltage outputs one by one. This group of burnt components was responsible for the 24V regulated output, which powers the high-voltage lamp circuit. When I turned it on again, I measured the output voltage. Both +5V and +12V were normal, but the repaired 24V was significantly lower.
To figure out whether the problem was with the power supply itself or due to over-current protection on the high-voltage board, I disconnected both high-voltage boards from the power supply and turned it on again. The 24V output dropped to 0V within 20 seconds, so I concluded that the 24V regulator circuit was still faulty.
I started checking the power switch regulator IC (NE003). Pin 1 had 300V, and the start-up voltage at pin 4 was normal. The boot capacitor also seemed fine. I suspected the switching regulator power supply NE003 (STR-X6769) was faulty. I asked my apprentice to bring me a new one. After comparing the resistance on pins 1 and 2, there was a big deviation. I installed the new part and tested the TV. After running for almost an hour, everything worked perfectly.
