Google hopes to provide millions of VR devices for UK school-age children

Google's emphasis on virtual reality (VR) can be seen from its introduction of Cardboard and Daydream hardware. Now, the company, based in Mountain View, plans to provide millions of school-age children with VR devices that can be used in the classroom. In his first visit to the UK as the CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai stated that he will provide VR training and resources for teachers through the Google Expeditions project.

In an interview with Engadget UK, Pichai said: "Virtual reality can inspire students' imaginations and help them better learn topics such as human blood flow and climate change's impact on the Great Barrier Reef."

We have received feedback from tens of thousands of English teachers as a supplement to traditional teaching methods. They believe that the Expeditions program can improve students' literacy and writing skills.

The Google Expeditions project is open to all schools in the UK free of charge. The behind-the-scenes team also plans to visit schools in Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Newcastle and Inverness to distribute VR devices and technical demonstrations to children.
