From related videos, we can see that once a user receives a notification about a package pickup, they go to a smart cabinet. Facing the camera, the courier box uses an infrared camera to capture images in both near-infrared and visible light. It then analyzes facial textures and micro-expressions for accurate face recognition. If the match is successful, the door opens automatically, allowing the user to collect their parcel.
Compared to the old method where couriers had to manually check packages, this new system is much more efficient. Users no longer need to search through piles of parcels. Additionally, the entire face recognition process operates at a millisecond level, with a financial risk prevention module that filters out factors like photos, videos, or masks. This prevents fraud and significantly reduces the risk of stolen deliveries.

Experts predict continued expansion, reaching around $7.595 billion by 2022. Despite its potential, challenges remain. Lighting conditions, changes in appearance (like glasses or hairstyles), and even identical twins can affect accuracy.
Moreover, non-matching situations—such as wearing hats or sunglasses—can lead to incomplete facial data, causing recognition failures. Age-related changes, especially in adolescents, also pose a challenge. However, ongoing research and advancements in AI are improving the technology.
Globally, several companies lead in face recognition. Internationally, firms like Cognitec (Germany), Herta (Spain), NEC (Japan), Identix (USA), Bioscrypt, Google, and Facebook are prominent. Domestically, companies such as Shangtang Technology, GTS Technology, and Yuncong Technology are leading the way in China. Shangtang, for instance, has achieved a 99% recognition rate and is backed by top investors. Its collaboration with the Chinese University of Hong Kong has set a high standard in the industry.
As the technology continues to evolve, face recognition is expected to become a key identity verification method, offering vast business opportunities in the IoT era.
